Music Feud: The Egg from 1776
Jul 5th, 2008 by Waffles
Friends, this is my last post in the music feud. if I had better timing, I would have posted this on Friday, but I didn’t, so there you go. (-:<
This is my favorite song from my favorite musical, 1776. I love it because it is not only historical, but it is fun, too. If only our forefathers burst out into song and dance every now and then while sweating away the summer of 1776, our country would be a utopia.
This song, “The Egg,” is about how America is an amazing idea, hatching from an egg that England lay. It’s a catchy toon, and sung by the star of the music, John Adams (played expertly by William Daniels, also known as Mr. Feeny from Boy Meets World!), Ben Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson. Check it out:
If you get a chance, get the film version of this musical from the library or the video store. Even if you don’t normally like musicals, you’ll appreciate this if American history is an interest.

this movie rocked… where has it been hiding all these years?
Patrick, your blog indicates that you are very, very confused. In what way do you think the foundation of a secular republic furthers the establishment of God’s Kingdom, whatever the fuck that is? Is it just, as indicated by your 1776 post, that the U.S. is an institution ostensibly founded on ideals of some kind, and that the leadership and stewardship roles played by some of its framers superficially bear resemblance to the roles played by persons in the formation of a church? Because if so, then damn, learn what “grasping at straws” means, and consider a career as a professor for your skill at seeing the parallels between things and other things.
